What's in a Name?

I figured one of my early posts should be dedicated to explaining how I came up with the name for this blog.

I wanted something cute, which seems like a must in the blogging world. I also wanted something relevant. Then it hit me: tulips.

In May 2007, I met up with a friend from college. We planned to go check out the local tulip festival. While we were there, another old friend of hers met up with us. I was introduced to her friend, and 4 years later we were married.

The bouquets at our wedding were made up of pink tulips to signify the day we met. Tulips also play a role in my husband's cultural background. He is a French Dutch Canadian. And, as he likes to put it, "if you ain't Dutch, you ain't much."

I knew I wanted to incorporate tulips into the title and so I rhymed off a few titles to my husband. We had it down to about 3 or 4 and needed to cast our votes. My best friend was due to arrive for a visit that weekend and threw in her vote. We had a winner.

Between all of that, and the fact that tulips are indeed cute, The Tulip Life was born! We just love tulips.

So tell me, what's your favourite flower?

  1. I love this story!

However, you failed to mention my last minute tulip bouquet rescue from your fridge after we had already boarded the bus to the church! ;) Good times!

My favourite flowers are daisies, dandelions, and roses.
